Culture & History

A rich history in health and wellbeing

Our story began over 90 years ago in 1930 with Gilbert Lane and his wife Grace, who founded the business. Gilbert was a true pioneer and passionate about improving health and quality of life through a good diet and supplementation, using carefully selected plants and nutrients.

Gilbert Lane

He began writing and selling books on diet and health, alongside recipe books and kitchen utensils from his home in Newent. The company developed several natural remedies and quickly outgrew their premises in Newent and after several moves, established its headquarters in 1939 in a Victorian pin factory in Gloucester. Here they stayed until moving to their current purpose-built factory in 1974 in the Longlevens area of Gloucester. Now the business manufactures household brands such as Olbas, Kalms and ProPlus.

In 2007 Lanes Health added to their portfolio and acquired Jakemans the popular soothing menthol lozenge brand based in Boston Lincolnshire.
