Ways to boost your immunity against annoying winter bugs
Stress:
Contrary to popular belief, stress can be good for you, although only in short bursts. The immune system releases hormones and adrenaline which can increase the production of immune cells. Hobbies are also helpful, especially competitive ones as they can stimulate the immune response too.
Warmth:
The Old Wives' Tale of wrapping up warm in winter really does have some health benefits. It was previously thought that the high incidences of colds and flu were because people tend to crowd together to keep warm. In fact it is because our bodies are colder. The nose is where the virus first attacks the body - and so keeping the nose warm helps it to function at sweeping away the bugs as they land on the fine hairs inside the nostrils. Wear a scarf over the lower face in the winter months, and help yourself to a healthier winter.

Eating:
Eating protein has been found to be beneficial in helping to build immune cells. Sources of protein to include in a winter diet include meat, eggs cheese and milk. Nuts and shellfish are also really good protein sources and they also contain zinc which is a well known immune system booster.
Echinacea:
This is probably one of the most well known and well researched of the herbs. It is used by people all over the world and is best known for stimulating the immune system, especially for its help in reducing the duration of colds and flu. It is a native American herb and has an impressive record of clinical research and study. Taken over short periods during winter, Echinacea can really give the immune system a boost!

Probiotics:
Probiotics have been found to help maintain a healthy balance of good bacteria in the gut. By ingesting a daily probiotic drink or yoghurt can reduce the duration of a cold by two days
Sex!:
Well it can keep you warm, which we have already established as a benefit! According to studies in the U.S. (where else!) people who are more sexually active have more bacteria fighting antibodies than those who are celibate!
